Jogging strollers are usually reserved for children that are nearly approaching 1 year old or even older. This is usually because of safety concerns as well as issues with the comfort and fit of a small child in a regular jogging stroller.
However, there are still some parents who may want to take their infants and newborns with them while they are jogging through their usual routes. As such, they may be wondering what features and what kind of jogging strollers they could purchase so that they could take their infants and newborns in.
Here are some factors that parents should search for when considering jogging strollers for infants and newborns:
Complete Travel Systems:
If you really want to take your child with you in your jogging strollers, then you may want to consider a complete travel system. A complete travel system is a jogging stroller wherein the wheel and frame of the stroller is separate from the seat.
This is because it would allow you to easily transfer your newborn between vehicles, as well as from your car or stroller to your home. This is because in most cases, the seat can double as car seat or as a bassinet which would facilitate the easy transition between the cars, strollers, and your homes.
This bassinet feature is great if your infant is already sleeping, and you would want to move them from the car or stroller back to their cribs. You would just have to detach the seat area from the wheel and frame and carry them to your homes.
Car Seat Adapters
If you have already purchased car seats that sit your children relatively well, then you may want to just get a car seat adapter for your stroller. The car seat adapter is an accessory that can be attached to the jogging stroller so that you can use a car seat instead of the included one.
Similar to a complete travel system, this would also enable you to seamlessly transition between a car and a stroller. You would simply install the accessory, and you would be able to use your car seat with the stroller.
However, you must remember that the car seat adapter is not available for all jogging strollers. Similarly, not all car seats are supported by the car seat adapter so you must first check before making any purchase.
Additional Safety Features:
You should also look for additional safety features in the jogging stroller that you would purchase for your newborn and infants. This is because infants and newborns are obviously more fragile than your older children. As such, you may want to check the safety features that are installed in the jogging stroller.
Things to check for are the fit of the safety harnesses, the strength of the brakes and tethers, as well as the padding of the car seat. You should check if the canopy really covers the baby, as they may be sensitive to exposure to sunlight.
By taking tehse factors into consideration, you would be able to ensure that you can find the best jogging stroller for your infants and newborns.
