Jogging Strollers are usually made for children of a standard size; unfortunately children don’t come in regulated sizes. This could lead to problems when you have a relatively big child and you are searching for a good jogging stroller for them
As the country’s children seem to be growing in size, there are seemingly much more parents who are facing that problem nowadays. They are finding out that the jogging strollers that they have purchased for their kids are not capable of seating them comfortably. Some children, especially those at the higher age ranges, would need to scrunch up or slouch just to be able to fit in the stroller.
Since jogging strollers are quite expensive, it would be a big waste if you would purchase one, only to find out that they would not fit your children. To help in avoiding this kind of size related problem, here are some tips for parents who are searching for jogging strollers for big kids:
Check the Canopy:
While parents may be vigilant about the width of the seating area of the jogging stroller, they would sometimes forget about the vertical part of the equation. What I mean is that they would forget to check just how comfortable their children would be when the canopy of the jogging stroller is drawn.
You may find out that your child’s head would hit the canopy or would scrape the top of it when it is fully drawn out. This is very uncomfortable, as well as would prevent the child from taking in the sights of the environment around him or her.
A good jogging stroller for big kids would preferably have a high ceiling so that it would not be hard for your big kid to fit inside.
Base you jogging stroller purchase on maximum weight capacity and not age:
To be able to increase the chance that your child would be able to fit comfortably in a jogging stroller, you should look at the maximum weight capacity and not the age. If you base it on age, you run the risk that your child is bigger than children at that age range, thus increasing the likelihood that he or she would not fit.
However, if you base it on maximum weight capacity, then you would immediately be able to determine if the jogging stroller was made to carry the frame of a kid in that weight range. As such, they would have probably made enough adjustments to it, to accommodate larger kids.
Check the Seatbelt:
Another concern would be to check the seatbelt. This is because your child may be able to fit the seat of the jogging stroller but the seat belt is not wide enough to stretch over his body. As any parent would know, safety is the most important factor, and if your child is too big for the seatbelt, then it should mean that he or she is too big for the stroller.
Of course you could get around this issue by purchasing seatbelt extensions. Unfortunately, these type of extensions are only available for some models of jogging strollers.
Now that you know of the different factors for getting a jogging stroller for big kids, you should start searching for one now, and try to find out if there is a good jogging stroller that would suit your needs.
